ASA lineman Kyle Thomas discusses Pruitt, Osovet

KNOXVILLE — ASA College defensive tackle Kyle Thomas is a 2020 prospect and has interest in Tennessee.

Thomas went to Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Va., during the time Joe Osovet was the head coach at ASA (2016-17).

Osovet is currently serving as Tennessee’s Player Development analyst, a position that he has held since Feb. 2018.

Thomas, a 6-foot-3, 270-pound defensive lineman described his interest in Tennessee with Vols Wire.

Part of his interest centers around Jeremy Pruitt being a defensive coach and watching Derek Barnett play on the defensive line at UT and breaking the school’s record for sacks.

“Tennessee is a defensive school,” Thomas told Vols Wire. “My favorite player is Derek Barnett.”

The JUCO prospect said Pruitt has “followed him since high school” and mentioned that Osovet “is a good coach.”

Thomas played in eight games in 2018, compiling 17 tackles, 8.5 sacks and one fumble recovery. Seven of his tackles were for a loss.

In August 2017, Thomas committed to Rutgers before enrolling at ASA.
