Vols up to No. 3 in latest AP top 25 poll, highest ranking since 2007-08 season

KNOXVILLE — On Sunday, Tennessee pulled off a marquee win over top-ranked Gonzaga in the Jerry Colangelo Classic at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix.

The win marked the Vols’ first over a No. 1 team since beating Kansas, 76-68 in Knoxville during the 2009-10 season.

On Monday, the Associated Press poll for week six of the college basketball season showed Tennessee (7-1) had made a major five-spot jump in the poll from No. 7 to No. 3, just behind Kansas and Duke.

The rest of the poll can be seen here:

The No. 3 ranking is Tennessee’s highest since reaching No. 1 for three days following a win over top-ranked Memphis in the 2007-08 season.

Incidentally, the Vols will travel to Memphis to take on the Tigers on Sunday at FedEx Forum. Tip-off is slated for noon on ESPN2.
