Quan Jones: Briles 'was a high character family first man'

KNOXVILLE — Houston offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kendal Briles is set to interview with Tennessee.

Friday morning Vols Wire discussed Briles with former Baylor tight end Gus Penning.

Penning told Vols Wire regarding Briles’ Tennessee interview that “if you want to score a lot of points and win a lot of games he is your guy.”

He also discussed the way Briles treats his players, saying that he has “almost a high school coach mentality in terms of treating the players like a family.”

Now, Friday afternoon, another former Baylor player that played under Briles discussed the current Houston offensive coordinator’s character with Vols Wire.

Quan Jones played wide receiver at Baylor from 2013-17 and tells Vols Wire that Briles “is my guy and one of the main reasons I came to Baylor.”

“He is a very well experienced coach with a great resume to prove his expertise in the field of football operations,” Jones said. “Off the field and in the film rooms, he was a high character family first man. It was nothing but the best from Coach Briles at all times.”
