Kiffin on Briles: 'I would be very excited to see him calling plays for Tennessee next season'

KNOXVILLE — Former Tennessee and current Florida Atlantic head coach Lane Kiffin joined Trey Wallace on Fox Sports Knoxville’s “It’s Optional” show Friday.

Kiffin discussed his former FAU offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, saying “if I was a Tennessee fan, which I am, then I would be very excited to see him calling plays for Tennessee next season.”

Kiffin also discussed having multiple conversations with Briles about the Tennessee job. The entire interview can be listened to below.

Vols Wire also discussed Briles interviewing for Tennessee’s offensive coordinator position Friday with two former Baylor players. Both spoke highly of their former coach at Baylor, who currently serves as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Houston.

Following the interview on Fox Sports Knoxville, former Baylor wide receiver Quan Jones who played for Briles discussed Kiffin’s comments with Vols Wire.

“Remember he (Briles) led the No. 1 offense in college football for a few years,” Jones said of Kiffin’s comments. “He’s one of the best out there for any program!”

Vols Wire also learned Thursday from someone close to Briles in Houston that if Briles were to interview for the Tennessee job, then they would expect things to move quick.
