Davion Hall: 'I was truly blessed God put a guy like Kendal and his father in my life'

KNOXVILLE – Houston offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kendal Briles is linked to Tennessee’s offensive coordinator position.

On the twelfth day of Tennessee’s search to replace Tyson Helton, former UT head coach Lane Kiffin endorsed Briles for the job. Briles served as Kiffin’s offensive coordinator at FAU in 2017.

Vols Wire discussed Tennessee potentially bringing in Briles with two former Baylor players Friday and both talked highly of Briles’ character.

Now, Friday night, a third former player that played for Briles at Baylor is speaking in favor for his former coach and the Tennessee job.

Former Baylor wide receiver and safety Davion Hall tells Vols Wire that “I would not waste any time hiring him.”

Hall went on to further discuss Briles.

“He is one of the best I have ever been around,” Hall said. “I was truly blessed God put a guy like Kendal and his father (Art) in my life. They had a big impact on the man I am today, he (Kendal) was like a father figure to me. He was a person anyone can talk to about anything and he would tell you the truth rather you liked it or not.

“I think that is why I had so much respect for them the way I do still to this day. He would also be a wonderful head coach for anyone.”

With Briles this far along in contention to join Tennessee’s coaching staff, Hall gave his thoughts on if UT should finalize a deal with him.

“Yes, if it was me hiring him, I would not waste anytime,” Hall concluded.
