KNOXVILLE – A win is a win, and for Tennessee (4-5, 1-4 SEC), the 14-3 victory over Charlotte brings the Vols closer to becoming bowl eligible.

After the win, wide receiver Marquez Callaway described how it felt to get the victory.

“A win is a win,” Callaway said. “We’re always happy for a win no matter who it is, regardless of whether it’s Charlotte or any other team. Going out here and getting a win on our Homecoming night is special.”

Tennessee produced 192 total yards against Charlotte and Callaway played an important part in placing the Vols in position to win the game.

Callaway had three receptions for 30 yards along with three punt returns for 98 yards and one touchdown.

Tennessee’s close outcome and offensive struggles centered around underestimating Charlotte and looking ahead to playing Kentucky.

“I think a lot of us underestimated Charlotte,” Callaway said. “They’re a great team on offense and defense. I think we were ready to get on to Kentucky. We had to take care of Charlotte, and Charlotte really showed up and proved to us not to overlook them.”
