Pruitt details quarterback practice reps

KNOXVILLE — Freshman quarterback JT Shrout was on the travel roster for last week’s Tennessee road contest at South Carolina as sophomore signal-caller Will McBride did not make the trip.

Shrout did not see game action against the Gamecocks and can play in the final four remaining regular season games and still maintain a redshirt season in 2018.

Ahead of the Charlotte game, Jeremy Pruitt discussed Shrout and preparing quarterbacks during game week.

“We’re just trying to get JT ready to play,” Pruitt said. “He spent the first half of the year on the scout team. All of our quarterbacks take reps in practice. We do a lot of good on good stuff, but when you start preparing for an opponent you’re only going to work two guys.

“You might let a third guy get just a few reps but not many, so they got to take mental reps. He (Shrout) worked the first half of the year on the scout team and we’ve swapped him and Will (McBride), but they both takes reps in practice in good on good.”
