1916: Tennessee’s first Homecoming game

The University of Tennessee’s first Homecoming took place on November 11, 1916.

That day, Tennessee upset Vanderbilt 10–6 with nearly three hundred alumni in attendance at Waite Field in Knoxville. Rabbit Curry scored Vanderbilt’s only score on a 70-yard run while Graham Vowell scored Tennessee’s winning touchdown.

Vanderbilt entered the game 6-0 and finished the 1916 season 7-1-1. Tennessee and Georgia Tech both finished the season 8-0-1 and as Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) co-champions.
