KNOXVILLE — There were a lot of good areas of improvement for Tennessee’s football team in the Vols’ 30-24 victory at Auburn.

One area that did not play well in the victory was the running game. Against Auburn, Tennessee totaled 68 rushing yards on 36 attempts.

Tennessee rushing yards in SEC games this season

  • 68 yards at Auburn
  • 66 yards at Georgia
  • 156 yards vs. Florida

Jeremy Pruitt has been clear since arriving at UT that he wants to have a running game presence on offense. Tennessee having running game success comes down to synchronization behind the offensive line for the backfield.

“There was a lot of runs out there that we didn’t execute very well,” Pruitt said of UT’s running game against Auburn. “There’s some runs that Auburn whipped us up front and there’s some runs that we didn’t block the right guys, so we’ve got to do a better job.

“We’re not going to beat many teams if we can’t run the football. You’ve got to be able to run the football in this league if you want to have success.”
