KNOXVILLE — Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt took part in the weekly call-in radio show ‘Vol Calls’ ahead of the Auburn game.

Pruitt was asked about leaders emerging on the team after five games.

“I think we have a lot of guys that have grown when it comes to that,” Pruitt said. “I think a lot of it is kind of expectations. It’s tough for anybody to step out and kind of be that guy when they don’t exactly know the expectations of a coaching staff or things like that, but I think we’ve got a lot of guys that have worked really hard and I go by how they practice — what kind of effect they have on their teammates.”

Pruitt mentioned that defensive lineman Darrell Taylor and defensive back Nigel Warrior are among players emerging as leaders.

“One guy that has really stuck out to me in the last few weeks is Darrell Taylor,” Pruitt said. “I see the guy competing every day. He has a smile on his face. He’s ready to go to work, so that’s a good thing.

“There’s lots of guys. I see Nigel Warrior, I jumped his tail pretty good today at practice. Just by the way he responds, it’s kind of one of those deals about coach me, Coach.”

Pruitt also mentioned that Taylor and Warrior are not the only leaders emerging, by saying “they’re not the only ones, we got others.”
