Drew Richmond: 'We want to win bad'

KNOXVILLE — Redshirt junior offensive lineman Drew Richmond met with media ahead of playing at Auburn.

The 6-foot-5, 309-pound lineman was asked about Tennessee’s improvement and mindset through five games and the bye week this season.

The Memphis product said the team wants to win and that he and his teammates are not quitting after a 2-3 start.

“We want to win bad,” Richmond said. “It’s crazy how much we go through, what we do on a daily basis to keep falling short. I don’t think we have a team full of quitters, I just don’t think that. Every weekend is an opportunity to show how good we really are.”

Part of the process of becoming better as a team is playing to a standard that Jeremy Pruitt is establishing within the Tennessee program.

“We haven’t played up to standard,” Richmond said. “I feel like we’ve improved, we’ve been getting a lot better. I feel like we’ve had some good games where we’ve had 200, 300 rushing yards, but we’ve just got to continue to protect the quarterback. We can’t let Jarrett (Guarantano) take a lot of hits.

“We’ve got to continue to strain and get better, but there’s a lot of room for improvement. We’ve just got to keep getting better until the season ends.”
