PODCAST: Former Auburn AD David Housel

David Housel joins the Vols Wire podcast to discuss the Auburn and Tennessee football series.

Housel, an Auburn graduate, served as Director of Athletics for Auburn from 1994-2005 and was the athletic department’s sports information director from 1981-94.

Auburn and Tennessee have played 52 times in a series that kicked off in Birmingham, Ala., on November 10, 1900.

The Vols and Tigers played annually from 1956-91 until SEC divisional play launched and ended the annual series as the conference split into Eastern and Western divisions.

History was made in the 26th meeting of the series when Auburn hosted Tennessee on campus for the first time ever on Sept. 28, 1974.

On the podcast, Housel discusses the Auburn and Tennessee series, the historic 1974 game and the 1989 SEC championship that Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee shared.

Housel and former Auburn head coach Pat Dye were at the 1989 National Football Foundation banquet in New York following the season and Johnny Majors went up to Dye and hugged and thanked him for Auburn beating Alabama, giving Tennessee a share of the SEC championship.

Below is the podcast with Housel.
