Alexis Johnson: UT 'coming together and playing as a team'

KNOXVILLE — Redshirt senior defensive lineman Alexis Johnson met with media ahead of playing at Auburn.

Johnson said UT worked on fundamentals during last week’s bye week.

“We worked on fundamentals and everything,” Johnson said. “We worked a little on Auburn, but mostly fundamentals and getting better as players.”

The Vols are 2-3 overall and 0-2 in SEC play. Johnson sees improvement on the team through five games.

“I think that we have improved in a lot of ways,” he said. “It just depends on how you look at it. I think that the biggest thing that we have improved on is coming together and playing as a team.”

Johnson has recorded 22 tackles, one sack and one pass deflection on the season.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive lineman plays a vital role on the line and is becoming more comfortable in Jeremy Pruitt’s 3-4 scheme.

“We are more comfortable with the scheme because we have been in it longer,” Johnson said. “It just comes with time and we have to keep repping it.”
