Pruitt: ‘We’re headed in the right direction’

ATHENS – The Tennessee program suffered its 20th 25-point defeat since 2009.

The 38-12 loss at Georgia is different from the other 25-point or more defeats since Lane Kiffin took over for Phillip Fulmer as head coach.

Tennessee showed signs of progress against Georgia of going in the direction that Jeremy Pruitt wants to build the UT program back to national prominence.

The Vols played Georgia to a 24-12 game in the fourth quarter and showed that, at times, they are making the necessary week-by-week progressions of building Pruitt’s program of understanding how to play and prepare in the SEC.

“We have fight in us, and we’re not going to quit,” Pruitt said emotionally following the Georgia loss. “It kind of gets me excited. These guys on this team have had a lot of negatives go against them for awhile, and I’m proud of them for the way they fought.

“And it isn’t easy. Our guys kept fighting, which means we’re headed in the right direction and that excites me.”
