Kirby Smart: Vols' running backs 'run with a purpose, an attitude, an intent to hurt'

Kirby Smart took part in the weekly SEC Coaches Teleconference.

Smart discussed Tennessee’s running backs unit consisting of Jeremy Banks, Ty Chandler, Tim Jordan and Madre London combining for 799 rushing yards on 160 carries through four games.

“They run with a purpose, they run with an attitude, they run with an intent to hurt,” Smart said.

Last week in Georgia’s 43-29 win at Missouri, the Bulldogs gave up 172 rushing yards. Smart said that his team did not “tackle very well” against Missouri.

Smart went on to say that against Tennessee his defense will need to “strap it on because they run hard.”

The Georgia head coach said that when “Banks comes in, he brings in an added juice.”

“He runs with the intent to create contact and run over you,” Smart said of Banks. “He’s a physical back, a good player, a good SEC back. They (Tennessee) have a stable of them and they do a good job of being committed to that.”
