50 years ago today Lester McClain, John Ward and artificial turf debuted for Tennessee at Neyland Stadium as the Vols tied Georgia, 17-17.

McClain made history on Sept. 14, 1968, becoming the first African-American to play football for UT.

The Nashville native played from 1968-70 for the Vols, totaling 70 receptions for 1,003 yards, scoring 10 receiving touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. McClain was part of the 1969 SEC championship team.
