Pruitt discusses QBs on SEC teleconference

KNOXVILLE — Jeremy Pruitt took part in the weekly SEC Coaches’ Teleconference ahead of the UTEP game.

Pruitt was asked about the quarterback position after two games played in the season.

When asked about a plan to play other quarterbacks, Pruitt indicated that Jarrett Guarantano and Keller Chryst are the two signal-callers playing right now.

“We have two quarterbacks that are playing right now,” Pruitt said. “Will (McBride) is the next guy, we will redshirt JT (Shrout). With Keller not here in the spring, we have to take advantage of the opportunities we have with him, and Will continues to take reps.”

Pruitt also discussed Guarantano’s progress after two games.

“I think he’s getting a better understanding of what we expect of him,” he said. “He’s doing a good job of eliminating negative plays. He’s kept his poise and he’s playing within himself.”

Through two games, Guarantano is 27-of-38 for 326 yards and one touchdown. The redshirt sophomore has not thrown an interception.

Chryst is 3-of-3 for 70 yards and one touchdown. The graduate transfer has not thrown an interception.
