Kirkland Jr. 'moving forward' in Pruitt's program

KNOXVILLE — Darrin Kirkland Jr. met with media for the first time since deciding to stay at Tennessee after previously announcing plans to transfer in May.

Kirkland Jr. likes the direction of the UT program under Jeremy Pruitt.

“The past is the past,” Kirkland Jr. told the media. “I’m really comfortable with this university, I love this university, the best fans in the universe. I graduated from here, I have to fill that obligation to get my degree, so that decision process was a family one. But I’m looking forward to moving forward with Coach Pruitt and the defense of this team, I’m excited to be here.”

Kirkland Jr. also said that he is “110 percent” health-wise in fall training camp.

Pruitt also addressed his linebacker during his media availability, saying Kirkland Jr. is “a smart guy who’s picked up the defense pretty quickly.”
