Callaway 'a lot more confident' under new coaches

ATLANTA — Wide receiver Marquez Callaway discussed Tennessee’s new offensive assistant coaches at SEC Media Days.

Callaway says with new coaches coming in “we are a lot more confident.”

“We are learning plays, learning defenses and coverages much better, and it will only help us out in the long run.”

New wide receivers coach David Johnson comes from Memphis and has already made an impression on Callaway.

“He is a fun guy,” said Callaway. “He brings a lot to the table and has a lot of knowledge for us to contain.”

Something that Callaway has picked up from Johnson is “that details matter.”

“All coaches harp that, but he really preaches it and we won’t move on unless we get the details right.”

Callaway is also learning under offensive coordinator Tyson Helton.

“Him coming from the west coast, a different style offense and we are learning more,” he said. “We had to start from scratch, so that was one challenge. The time that we had and the time they have spent with us trying to learn the offense and not moving too fast, but making sure we understand it. That is going to help us, too.”
